New Star Wars Launch Bay at Hollywood Studios

Hey There Love Bug,

This past week I headed over to Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida to check out the brand new Star Wars Launch Bay!  This highly anticipated film flew at warp speed through the box office to hit records, so its no wonder that the Launch Bay was full of Star Wars fans anxiously waiting to check it out!  Here are the 5 things you have to check out when visiting the Launch Bay!

5. Character Meet and Greets

Chewbacca and Darth Vader are waiting to meet you at the Launch Bay!  There are no fastpasses for this meet and greet, however, the lines seem to go pretty quickly.  Darth Vader is very intimidating (like I expected anything less) with his actions and phrases, but I managed to at least give him a hug (which I’m sure deep inside he didn’t care for LOL).  Chewbacca is absolutely adorable and could not stop roaring at me because he was in love with my backpack (which was a Chewbacca backpack).  The Jawas come out every now and then on their own schedule, so you wont actually be able to wait for them.  Just be ready to trade any item they want for droid pieces!  Check out this little guy he gave me for trading a sticker I had!  Storm Troopers also appear in the exterior of the Launch Bay at random times for pictures.

4. Launch Bay Theater

Right before entering the Launch Bay, you will see a theater that plays a short 10 minute film that plays continuously throughout the day.  This film is based on the Star Wars saga and features commentaries and interviews with producers and directors (like JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson) along with other key roles that have assisted with bringing Star Wars to life.  This film was very informative and a great way to understand views and concepts from a directors point of view.

3. Disney Infinity Games

The little ones (and some adult kids) will love playing the latest version of Disney Infinity which features an exclusive box just for the Launch Bay.  This can become very addicting, as I saw several kids (and Dads) not wanting to leave this area!

Awesome costumes from the films!

2. Star Wars Memorabilia

The main ‘goodies’ to enjoy here has to be the replica costumes, props, models, and artifacts that are displayed all along the Launch Bay.  There are explanations with really great details with every single prop on display.  These were great to read, especially for those that need a little ‘refresher’ with all things Star Wars.  Here are some of the cool props I loved:

1. D-Tech Phone Cases

D-Tech allows guests to design their own phone cases!  Choose form hundreds of pictures and even personalize your case with your name in English or Aurebesh (the Star Wars language). Simply visit the station at the end of the Launch Bay and design your case.  Once you head over to the cashier and pay for it they will design it, and it will be ready for you in minutes.  This is a very cool way to snag a stellar case made just for you!

The gift shop in the Launch Bay also carried some very unique souvenirs and gifts that are too hard to pass up!  you’ll definitely want to check it out!

Star Wars activities are all over Hollywood Studios!  Check out Star Tours (a great simulator ride), Jedi Training Academy, Path of the Jedi (a film based on Luke Skywalker’s journey to becoming a jedi), and even sweet treats with your favorite Star Wars characters (like the picture above)!
