Disney’s Zootopia

Hey There Love Bug,

I was so stoked to finally check out Zootopia this weekend, and I have to day, Disney did it again!  I am totally obsessed with the story and message of this film and the fact that it’s full of animals (something that I am very passionate about) is so heartwarming!  Don’t worry, there are no spoilers ahead…

Zootopia follows Judy Hopps (voiced by Once Upon A Times Ginnifer Goodwin) on her way to becoming the first ever bunny cop in a world full of animals of all shapes, sizes, and family types.  Along the way she meets Nick Wilde (voiced by the hilarious Jason Bateman) who helps her solve her first case as a police officer.

Not only was the animation of this film exquisite, but the comedy was flowing through the film in its entirety!  I was so surprised at the amount of references and jokes that were geared more for adults than for children!  Be sure to pay special attention to the breaking bad references and the Frozen references as well.  I also loved hearing many familiar voices throughout the film (many of which were from Frozen).

Ok, now for the real deal……My real reason for loving this film so much is for the message behind the storyline.  The theme behind the film is that no matter how many times someone tells you ‘you can’t do that’ and no matter how small or unfit you may seem, you can accomplish anything with determination and confidence.  The other message is to not stereotype others just because of what they are mostly known for.  We must be open minded and understand that anyone can carry terrible or great character traits no matter what their exterior looks like.  As a teacher, I know how important it is for my students to understand and apply this theme to their everyday lives in and out of my classroom.  I look forward to incorporating this film somehow into my character trait lessons in the future!

I can’t wait until this film comes out on DVD, but until then, my sister and I will wear our Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde ears!

The theme, comedy, and futuristic animation is why I rate this film five stars!

5 out of 5 stars
