Beauty and the Beast

Hey There Love Bug!

I seriously feel the Beauty and the Beast hype has been living on each and every day this month, and I have to admit that I was part of it.  This classic and beloved tale is so prominent in the lives of all 90s babies (such as myself) so naturally, I have been counting down the days until the release of the new live animated film.  Today I dashed to the theater and could barely sit in anticipation!  Here are 5 reasons why you should get off the couch and head to the theater to catch Disney’s newest blockbuster hit, Beauty and the Beast!

5. The Actors

We all know Disney has no problem recruiting some of the biggest names in show business for their films.  In fact, many celebrities have stated in interviews that it is a dream to fulfill the role of some of their favorite characters in new remakes.  This film casts some of the best actors/actresses in Hollywood and their portrayals of the classic characters we all love was spot on.  Emma Watson, who plays Belle, couldn’t have done a better job at being such a selfless beauty (literally).  I also loved the supporting roles of Lumiere (played by Ewan McGregor), Cogsworth (played by Ian McKellen), Mrs. Potts (played by Emma Thompson), Maestro Cadenza (played by Stanley Tucci), and Madame Gaderobe (played by Audra McDonald).  They really brought magic to the movie and lived up to the original animated film characters.  While they were all absolutely spectacular to watch, my all time favorites have to be Luke Evans, who plays Gaston, and Josh Gad, who plays Le Fou.  They were so fun to watch!

4.  The Costumes

Mark my words, this film will be up for an oscar for its costumes!  I was in complete awe at how intricate and beautiful each and every costume looked.  I can only imagine how much time was spent in costume development because it all seemed so authentic to the time frame of the storyline.  Luckily for me, I was able to see Le Fou and Gaston’s real life costume in person at Disney World last month.  Looking at it in the case made me even more excited to see the film because of how amazing the costumes were in person!  The enchanted rose also made an appearance (below)!

3. The Plot

Sometimes remakes of films can be disappointing to viewers when they realize the plot or storyline has been altered from the original.  That was not the case for this film.  I felt the producers and directors did a great job of remaking the original film into this live action film without completely delving away from the iconic script we all know and love.  I will say, that there were a few added or changed concepts in the film (which, I am not going to say all of them so I won’t spoil it for you; You’re Welcome) that were a bit different from the original.  For example, there is insight to what happened to Belle’s mother, which is not demonstrated in the original animated film.  While these scenes or concepts may have been different, it didn’t take away from the original storyline.  I was also pleased with the fact that there were many moments that made me bust out laughing (literally).  Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Le Fou had many funny lines in the movie that has everyone giggling.  It was very refreshing!

2. The Music

Alan Menken, the genius behind the music of The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Beauty and the Beast, Tangled, Enchanted, Hercules, and many Broadway shows, is back and has developed some new songs (in addition to the classic ones) in this new film.  I have to say, it was soooooo hard keeping my mouth shut when I heard all of the beloved tunes from the original remade, but I really enjoyed some of the new songs that were included.  The best part about the music is that it is all available on iTunes for purchase or Spotify!  Be sure to check it out, you won’t be disappointed!

1. The Detail and Animation

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; The reason Disney is unlike any other company is because of the attention to detail in everything that they do.  The detail put into this film is jaw dropping, to say the least. Every prop and scene transports the audience to this magical land of pure fantasy.  The characters are incredibly authentic and so well put together.  The animation is also breath taking in the sense that the castle and characters are animated in such a realistic way and the colors and details within the castle are vintage and classic in their decor.  To say that this film is beautiful is a complete understatement!

I, of course, went to the theater representing my favorite arrogant man to show my love for the film!  My shirt is from Happily Ever Tees, my mug is from Gaston’s Tavern at Walt Disney World, and my necklace is from the Disney Store!

This film exceeded my expectations and deserves a five out of five stars!

5 out of 5 stars
